This post documents the next stage in the development of my sleeveless men's jacket.

Rather than producing the final garment immediately, I first construct a complete prototype using inexpensive test fabric. This allows me to study the balance of the garment, seam positions, neckline, shoulder width, body length and overall proportions before cutting the final fabric.

The floral fabric shown here is used purely for development purposes. The print itself is not part of the intended final design. It provides an economical way to test the pattern and identify adjustments that may improve the fit and construction.

Working directly on the dress form allows me to evaluate the garment from every angle and make careful decisions before beginning the finished version.

This documentation forms part of my ongoing fashion sketchbook, recording the complete design process from concept through prototype and eventually to the completed garment.

Every stage is archived as part of the Pieter Lategan | STUDIO documentation system so that the development history of each design remains permanently recorded.
